The PRS Foundation New Music Biennial 2017 was a resounding success, widely celebrated for its "huge success" (Absolutely Cultured) in showcasing the "vibrancy and quality of the UK's new music scene" (BBC Radio 3). This "critically acclaimed free festival" (Absolutely Cultured) featured 20 diverse new and existing works, encompassing genres from classical to jazz, folk, and electronic.

The Biennial showcased contributions from a stellar lineup of artists and composers. These included Anna Meredith with her "Concerto for Beatboxer & Orchestra," Errollyn Wallen's "Mighty River," Mica Levi's new work for the BBC Concert Orchestra, and Sam Lee's "Hullucination." Hannah Peel's "Mary Casio: Journey to Cassiopeia" was particularly lauded, earning a 4.5/5 star rating from Jazzwise, praised for its "gorgeous mixed electronic and brass orchestration." Other notable artists included Gavin Bryars, Eliza Carthy, GoGo Penguin, and Philip Venables.

Reviewers lauded the Biennial for its "ambitious" and "innovative" programming, which successfully engaged thousands of attendees in both Hull and London's Southbank Centre. All 20 pieces were broadcast on BBC Radio 3, ensuring wider accessibility. The initiative effectively brought new music to broader audiences, inspiring many to "try something new" and discover "brilliant" new artists.
